Yesterday we learned about the Eighth Doctor's new costume, and earlier today we watched a rare video from the Armageddon Expo event at which Paul McGann revealed the costume. Unfortunately, the video was blurry, and we only posted a single image of the "homeless" Eighth Doctor; so here are a few more images, of higher resolution, including a zoomed-in picture of the redesigned sonic screwdriver.

its almost the 9th doctors costume :)
Are they different jackets or is the lighting very different in the photos? Because in the top it looks blue, and in the bottom one it looks black.
Well, it would kind of make sense that perhaps he'd have different clothes for while he was in the time war. let's face it, the halloween costume he had before just would not have cut it. though, i do have to wonder at why they even made a point of doing this at all. are they perhaps at some point in the future going to do something new with the 8th doctor?
I was just thinking something similar to yeshuaknight. It the 9th Doctor showed up in this jacket it wouldn't surprise us. The 8th dressed like such an aristocratic dandy that I suspect the 3rd Doctor would have laughed. I think many of us are reacting to the sharp contrast. I like the redish brown bits on the side of the sonic; makes me think of Dalek side panels.
I like it but its a little far removed from his regular attire isnt it? Other variants (Fourth, Sixth and Seventh) have all worked quite well because they felt like logical improvements.
They've never totally redesigned a Doctor's costume before and I'm not totally sure its a good idea. I hope the hair is staying.
I hope he loses the wig, and I still don't understand the bag . . .
There's no point in the bag because his pockets are bigger on the inside (The Runaway Bride).
I personally think he should keep the curly wig, because otherwise it's a completely different Doctor to before.
I think the Kreigsmarine jackets like the 9th Doctor wore had a blue variation like this, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if that is in fact a vintage Kreigsmarine U-boat jacket.
I like this look much better than the movie dandy version and it's a more logical look for the Big Finish's versions of his Doctor to me. The bag, well, why not? It makes him look a little more soldier-esque to me, but then I'm thinking of those Israeli soldier bags which this looks like.
I sort of don't like the idea that a Doctor's incarnation doesn't have a change of clothes. At least with Eccelston his character had different color shirts and presumably a change of pants. It suited a man back from war. Tennant had different suits, ties and shoes, but with Matt Smith they've saddled him with two shirts and two ties and no variety. It makes him look like a hobo.
I think back to Tom Baker and the only constant was the scarf and a variety of overcoats but he looked like he had a wardrobe that varied.
But that's just my opinion.
so is paul mcgann actually making a comeback as the doctor?
I'm not too worked up about this costume. It is presented as a work in progress for one; and perhaps more importantly, what is this for? As for the 11th, we know that he has at least a new jacket coming soon, he sported a football jersey in "The Lodger", and finished the season with a tuxedo.
"homeless" -- so douchey.
Ah yes, because "douchey" isn't at all an insensitive word.
Just referring to him by the nickname by which Combom's called him.
I'm intolerant of intolerance, and condemning of those who would condemn -- in other words, moral. In other words, like a character in fiction called the Doctor.
But relax, 10thPlanet. I didn't even see you use the term. You didn't in this thread.
I don't know what makes it more offensive -- that, though McGann looks a little rough around the edges, he hardly looks down and out, or that someone would so casually degrade people who are down and out to the status shorthand for looking bad.
the status *of* shorthand for looking bad.
I personally like the idea of a rugged Doctor. Oh, and I actually DID say "homeless", so I assumed you were talking specifically to me. My mistake.
