Lyrics to Abigail's Song from Doctor Who 'A Christmas Carol'

When Katherine Jenkins sang "Abigail's Song" in this year's Christmas special, "lighting your bright shadow", she and Murray Gold may have left a few hints in store about Series 6 and the Silence. It sounds rather unlikely, given that this was thus far the most standalone episode of Matt Smith's tenure; but looking at the lyrics, it's almost impossible to ignore.

"When you’re alone, Silence is all you see,
When you’re alone, Silence is all you’ll be.
Give me your heart to come to me.

"When you are here, music is all around.
When you are near, music is all around.
Open your eyes; don’t make a sound.

"Let in the shadow! Let in the shadow!
Let in the light of your bright shadow!"

Many people across the Internet have additionally claimed to hear the words, "Silence will fall all around", in the lyrics. I'll have to watch "A Christmas Carol" again to make sure, but "Silence" sounds like a deliberate reference.

"Abigail's Song" will be released in February 2011 with the rest of the Doctor Who "A Christmas Carol" soundtrack, of which a cover mock-up can be found here.

EDIT: We originally said that the lyrics were "Meet in the shadow", but we've since been corrected; it's "Let in the shadow", which makes a lot more sense, honestly.

seeing silence? hearing it surely, possibly feeling it but seeing? odd lyrics (and yes you are right )

whatever the case, she sang it beautifully

If the Silents have corporeal form, then perhaps that'll be something significant.

I'm more interesting in the "When you're alone" part; the Silence references could just be fluff, but when will the Doctor be truly alone? Companions could be gone, surely, but the TARDIS is always with him . . . Until that too is stolen . . .

It's all interesting. And then we have the screencap of the doctor with a beard all chained up....alone. No companions. No tardis. Chained up and alone. Or so it seems to me.
Odd lyrics indeed. Silence. When you're alone.
And she did sing it beautifully. I love her voice. And her face. ;)

For me Abigail's singing was the best part of the episode.

From io9 spoilers a while back: “Silence”, the major arc of series six, is mentioned at least once in the special, and we hear again from the creepy voice first heard in the TARDIS during The Pandorica Opens – apparently this voice still has some control of the TARDIS.

Well, we didn't hear the voice, did we? But maybe that's what they meant by the Silence being mentioned.

The io9 spoilers were a bit old, but yeah, that's probably it. :)

Abigail's song was the most hauntingly beautiful song I've heard in a long time.
I absolutely loved the episode otherwise, and I've rather not liked season 5 so that is saying a lot.

There it is, the Doctor is the bad guy.

The last two lines are actually:

Let in the shadow! Let in the shadow!
Let in the light of your bright shadow!

(thanks, iPlayer subtitles)... makes more sense too.

Don't forget, until we saw the trailer that we would have assumed the Lodger was almost totally stand alone. Moffat seems to be playing a very long complex game...

@Farsighted

I was just about to point out this was what it also said on the TV subtitles for both the Episode and the Confidential.

who thinks she will be singing at the next doctor who proms?

what about the lyrics before that?
"when you're alone, silence is all you are, when you're alone, silence is all you know"?

the first bit you hear when the ship is still crashing. she sings something else, but i can't make it out

The lyrics are printed in the soundtrack booklet:

When you're alone, silence is all you know.
When you're alone, silence is all you know
Let in the noise and let it grow.

When you're alone, silence is all youi see
When you're alone, silence is all you'll be
Give me your hand and come to me.

When you are here, music is all around,
When you are near, music is all around,
Open your eyes, don;t make a sound.

Let in the shadow, let in the shadow,
Let in the light of your bright shadow.

Let in the shadow, let in the shadow,
Let in the light of your bright shadow.

Let in the light,
Let in the light,
Let int he light of your sweet shadow.

When you're alone, oh,
Silence is all you know,
Silence is all,
Silence is all around,
Silence is all,

Abigail's Song full lyrics as taken from the digital booklet that comes from the CD - the 'Silence will fall all around' that you refer to is at the end of the song but as 'silence is all around'...
P.S. its give me your hand and come to me not heart :)

When you're alone, silence is all you know.
When you're alone, silence is all you know
Let in the noise and let it grow.

When you're alone, silence is all you see
When you're alone, silence is all you'll be
Give me your hand and come to me.

When you are here, music is all around.
When you are near, music is all around.
Open your eyes, don't make a sound.

Let in the shadow, let in the shadow,
Let in the light of your bright shadow.

Let in the shadow, let in the shadow.
Let in the light of your bright shadow.

Let in the light.
Let in the light.
Let in the light of your sweet shadow.

When you're alone, oh,
Silence is all you know.
Silence is all,
Silence is all around.
Silence is all
Silence is all around
