Sneak Peek at Torchwood: Miracle Day "The Gathering"

Friday's episode of Miracle Day, the series' penultimate episode, will, with any luck, get the story moving after eight hours of slow plot development. Here is a sneak peek at how that plot will move.

Doctor Who - Who's He? #23 Himmler had something similar
Doctor Who is back! And Paul & Phil give the waiting world their thoughts on Let's Kill Hitler! And guess what? They both enjoyed it! However, enjoying Doctor Who comes with a price as Phil has to eat his hat and two slices of humble pie as his previous predictions on River Song couldn't be further from the truth and he gets an episode title wrong. So really, he did the whole podcast speaking with his mouth full. Naughty boy!

AOL TV Interviews Doctor Who's Steven Moffat — Relationships and River Song

AOL TV sat down for what would turn out to be a brilliant interview with Steven Moffat, the "mastermind" of Doctor Who. Among dozens of gems, here are the best bits; but we encourage you to read the full interview.

Interviewer Maureen Ryan asks how the Doctor's past decisions are coming back to haunt him.
I think there's just some weird thing that happens with a character like the Doctor. When you bring him back in 2005, he's the lone drifter that no one's ever heard of, but gradually and inevitably, he becomes the greatest hero in the universe. He can stand up in the center of Stonehenge and say, "Come on, do you think you're hard enough?"
And what does the man who just wants to be a drifter, who just wants to just knock around a bit, think about that? And I think within the mad, mad, mad world of 'Doctor Who,' it's not an incredible development that, of course, the Daleks would be sort of wetting themselves when he turns up. Of course, he'd become a legend. Of course, all of those things would be happening.
But why would he be comfortable with that? And you know, he actually abuses this to some degree in [the mid-season finale] 'A Good Man Goes to War,' he abuses the power of it and starts calling in favors and it doesn't work out for him. So that's interesting.
And why does the Doctor keep people like Amy and Rory around?
Well, I think he likes young people around. He's like them. Obviously the Doctor is old, but that's thinking in human terms. In his terms maybe he's really quite young. I think what we're playing with is [his] concern that he should have been gone before the wedding. It's a little bit worrying. He's getting involved in their real lives and he never, ever, ever intended to.
Was River Song always going to be Amy and Rory's daughter?
Oh no, no. I mean, it was one possible theory. Why is it somebody who's got such connections, who would that be? Is it just a future companion? What if it's somebody's got a lifelong commitment to the Doctor or his companion? So when I introduced Amy, I kept my options open [and used the name Pond]. I thought I was doing [the name thing] in plain sight and nobody [caught] it for a long while. But I didn't know at the time Karen was going to stay long enough for that story to come off. I didn't know if Alex would keep coming back.

So Plan A held, but there were other ones, including the [Plan B] that maybe River never came back at all and you could just imagine that she knows the 59th Doctor in the far future.
The Question hasn't been asked, but will we get answers?
You get all the answers in the next [episodes]. Well, just about all. There's always going to be something the Doctor won't tell you.
The interview then turns to whether or not Moffat is still discovering places to go with Matt Smith in terms of character.
Well I think if you thought you weren't, why are you still doing it? We'll be done when we have haven't got anything left. I think he's a limitless actor. He's incredibly inventive, compassionate and clever. So I don't think we're anywhere near the limit of what he can do. But again, that's not really how I approach the show. I approach it as, what's the most fun we can have this week?
Lots of people were quite satisfied with themselves that they figured out who River Song is. Is Moffat impressed?
Oddly enough, if you want to understand 'Doctor Who,' always watch it like a child. The children decode it like that because they are not distracted. My little boy got who River was at the end of 'Day of the Moon.' It's dead obvious, if you're not worried about, "Is that little regenerating girl the Doctor's daughter?" [or speculation like that]
Look at it from a child's perspective -- there's a mysterious woman and a mysterious little girl and a mysterious pregnancy. Duh. Instantly, my little boy Louis said, "The regenerating little girl [at the end of 'Day of the Moon'] -- that must be River Song, obviously."
Interestingly enough, Moffat calls Amy and Rory the Doctor's "in-laws" at some points during the interview. "Wedding of River Song", here we come.

How Not to Introduce Yourself to Doctor Who's David Tennant, or Any Other Celebrity

"Hello, my name is Patricia."

This is probably how the 21-year-old Spaniard should have introduced herself to David Tennant after a performance of Much Ado about Nothing, in which he stars alongside Catherine Tate.

Instead, Patricia chose to assault him on the street—and then she bragged about it on Tumblr, much to the adoration of some and the horror of others.

Now, this story is certainly not typical, but it's also not rare. Someday Tennant will probably recount it fondly on The Graham Norton Show. Until then, however, it's probably best to review basic etiquette when meeting your favorite star.

As with most plays of this caliber, the cast of Much Ado exited the theatre shortly after the performance and allowed fans to harass them for autographs. This is normal. Surviving screaming mobs is part of the job. Getting hassled, on the other hand, is not.

Patricia details what happened next.
[My mum and I] went to the front door to pick up the tube but my mum saw David with a black jacket and a hat leaving the venue trying not to be recognized. He crossed the street and kept walking so we decided to follow him. I kept calling him but he didn't turn his back, then I said to my mum: “What if it's not him?”
. . . We kept walking behind him, then he went to a street with no escape so he had to come back and that's when I hold his right arm and started saying to him: "Please David, take a photo with me, pleaseee"
and then he started doing those weird movements like when he was 10th Doctor, something like this [see right] but only with his left arm as I was holding his right one x)
Note the complete lack of remorse, the teasing glee as she describes how she grabbed at Tennant, demanding that she get a photograph. Adding the GIF in—that's just surreal.

Reminder: Actors are people. It may be shocking, perhaps even a bit unsettling; but actors do not like having their limbs clawed at by total strangers who know their name.
[He was] trying to escape without luck as I was holding him, then I said to my mum: "Come on pick up the camera, come on" but she was in front of him staring at his beauty and not giving a sh*t about what I was saying to her so I told him “Please David, we come from Spain and we came to see you, it's just a second”
Catherine Tate at back.
At this point I imagine her saying that like a Stephen King character.
. . . And that's when he put his hand in my right shoulder and stared right straight into my eyes saying with his lovely scottish accent: "And I'm really thankful for that, but they don't let me. I'm so sorry but I gotta go. Thank you :)"
If anything, this is a testament to how wonderful a person David Tennant is. He appreciates his loyal fans—even the physical ones.
He was with a manager or someone that's why maybe he couldn't. Then tons of people came to where we were to see what's going on and he had to run and disappear to avoid all those people who came later.
Yeah, clearly he had to run away from them. After this, Patricia's tale just gets creepy.
It was a very cool experience anyway <3 He is so tall and so f*cking beautiful that my ovaries almost explode.
And he smells soooooooooooo so so so so delicious. I love his perfume <3
All in all, say hello to your childhood heroes. Greet your favorite actors. Ask them for an autograph—beg, even. Do your best to make an impression, because those will be your fifteen seconds of fame. But the next time you spot a celebrity, do not corner, grab, and harass them before sitting at your computer and recounting your adventure with pride.

Again, it's the lack of remorse that makes this particularly unsettling, and stories like these set a poor example for fans.

Doctor Who Annual Pg 01 color by Whatwouldjoshdo

From the Artist "Here are the colors to the first page of the Doctor Who Annual I did for IDW. Rachelle Rosenberg did the colors for all my work on Doctor Who and I have to say, I was extremely happy with how vibrant this page turned out. It really has the charm that the TARDIS should have. In my initial layouts I indicated where I best thought the word balloons should go, I have to check and see if they were used."

The Doctor Who Cast Sing the Confidential Song

David Tennant Misses Two Much Ado About Nothing Shows (UPDATED)

EDIT: He has since returned to the stage. This news is slightly outdated. Carry on.

David Tennant, who played the Tenth Doctor, pulled out of Much Ado about Nothing this week after losing his voice.

Shakespeare's famous play has been performed on the West End for several months now, and Tennant stars alongside fellow Who star Catherine Tate.
The actor missed two shows on Monday and Tuesday. Producers said he hoped to return to the stage on Wednesday.

Understudy Alex Beckett played Benedick opposite Catherine Tate's Beatrice in the 40-year-old's absence.

Could the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Show Be In 3D?

Matt Smith has called on the BBC to make the fiftieth anniversary edition of Doctor Who a 3D spectacular. The long-running series marks its half-century on November 23rd 2013, and the current Time Lord feels that it should be a spectacular event.

source

Remember this is only an actor asking publicly for something, but it still could happen. After all, 1993's Dimensions in Time Doctor Who special was made in 3D. It was rubbish, but still.

The special was one of several special 3D programs the BBC produced at the time, using a system developed by American inventor Terry D. Beard that made use of the "Pulfrich effect". The technology required spectacles with one darkened lens and one transparent one; these were sold in shops to the public, with the proceeds going to the Children in Need charity.

I see it as a possibility, but don't hold your breath!

Doctor Who Characters in SyFy Channel Poll

The following is republished from STV. The full article has more information.
David Tennant has beaten Matt Smith in a recent poll by the SyFy Channel to find the sexiest sci-fi hunk. The tenth Doctor came in at second place (16.9%), beating spin-off show Torchwood lead John Barrowman who came in third (14.2%), with Smith in tenth place (8.7%). I thoroughly disagree with this, since Matt Smith will be my husband one day. But at least he took the lead over David Tennant in acting (see Matt Smith is a Much Better Doctor Who than David Tennant). X-Men star Hugh Jackman topped the poll (20.3%).
'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' beauty Sarah Michelle Gellar was named the sexiest babe in sci-fi, coming ahead of current 'Doctor Who' star Karen Gillan - who plays the Time Lord's companion Amy Pond - and Billie Piper, who previously appeared in the sci-fi show as the Doctor's former travelling companion Rose Tyler when David starred in the titular role. Karen and Billie were placed fourth and fifth respectively, behind Jeri Ryan and Jessica Alba, while 'Heroes' beauty Hayden Panettiere and 'Star Wars' actress Carrie Fisher also made the top 10, along with Anna Pacquin, Jane Fonda and Sigourney Weaver. . . .

Doctor Who Of The Day - Peri Brown

The character Peri Brown is supposed to be an American, but she was played by English actress Nicola Bryant. Her English accent often slips, and her American accent wanders between different regional accents. She sometimes uses phrases and pronunciations that Americans would not use, such as "lift" instead of "elevator".
