Doctor Who nominated for 3 TV Choice awards.

Doctor Who has appeared on the shortlist for the TV Choice Awards no fewer than three times this year.  The show itself has been nominated in the Best Drama category, whilst leads Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.  If that wasn't exciting enough, the competition has a Who connection as well, with Broadchurch (created by Chris Chibnall) up for Best New Drama and former Doctor David Tennant facing off against Smith in the Best Actor category for his role in the ITV crime drama.  It could well turn into a battle of the Doctors, leading some to worry that the vote could be split, with the possibility of neither show getting the credit it deserves (as has happened before).

The TV Choice Awards are organised by British television magazine TV Choice and are voted for by television viewers.  They may lack the glamour of some of the larger awards ceremonies (and are sponsored by a well-known brand of washing powder) but they are a good measure of what's popular on TV at the moment.  Other shows getting a look-in to the nominations include popular period dramas Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife, with Miranda Hart - one of the rumour mill's female Doctor choices - nominated for Best Actress, and there are even a few entries from across the pond, with Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead going head-to-head with The Big Bang Theory and CSI for Best International Show.

The 2013 TV Choice Awards will take place on 9th September and you can place your votes on the TV Choice website from later on today.  Voting closes 12th July.
