Capaldi: Clara's Exit is Very Sad and Sonic Will Return

Peter Capaldi appeared on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show (Watch/Listen here) and commented on Clara's exit, promising it to be very sad "over a number of weeks".

“I found it really sad to say goodbye to her … I don’t want to go into what happens, because it’s very clever what happens in it, but it’s very sad. It’s really sad.”

“It’s not quite what you think is going to happen. You think what’s going to happen is going to happen, and then something else happens. That’s what’s wonderful about Doctor Who. it’s always clever the way these things are done. It’s not quite as straightforward as it appears.”

“So get lots of hankies ready. It’s sad over a number of weeks.”

He also commented on how he's not really saying goodbye to Jenna:

"I still see her, so it's not like saying goodbye to Jenna in person, but you sort of say goodbye to the character. It becomes the focus of all your emotion and all of the things that perhaps you’d like to say to that person and how wonderful she’s been to me."

In the fan questions segment, Peter was asked when filming for the next series began. Unfortunately, Peter had no idea:
“I think next year… at some point.”

And he was asked his opinion on the Sonic Shades and whether the screwdriver will return:

“I think those fans of the sonic screwdriver should not fret. Fear not,” Capaldi said. “If I was a fan of the screwdriver I wouldn’t lose any sleep. But I do like the shades, I think they’re fun.”
