Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston Stars in Westminster Abbey Play

"Come with me if you want to worship."
The stage is set. Westminster Abbey. 1611. King James' authorized Bible has been finalized. It's a brand new, definitive translation. This will redefine religion, proliferate reading of the holy text, and fortify the Church of England.

Now it's 2011, and this Thursday is the 400th anniversary of this momentous book. Whether you're the Vicar of Dibley or Richard Dawkins, there's no doubting the influence of the King James Bible, and Christopher Eccleston, the Ninth Doctor, will star in a play to reflect its origins. Westminster Abbey itself is the stage for In the Beginning, starring Chris and Tamsin Greig ("The Long Game", Episodes).
Actors will lead audience members around the building where scholars met in 1611 to finalise its translation. The work, written by Nick Payne and produced by London's Bush theatre, contains extracts from the Bible.
Billed as a celebration of the Abbey and the King James Bible, the event will see small groups taken into areas of the London landmark that are rarely seen by visitors. The play touches on some of the lesser-known facts about the building, such as poet Ben Johnson being buried there upright because he could only afford a tiny plot.
