Doctor Who has won an award for Best Family Drama in the TV Choice Award 2012.
The show beat other BBC Series Merlin, Waterloo Road and Sky1's Glee. Matt Smith However lost out to Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch in the Best Actor award for the series. Sherlock also won the Best Drama Series.
Karen Gillan also lost out on an award to Miranda Hart in Best Actress Category for her character in Call the Midwife.
