How to Play Doctor Who The Gunpowder Plot Outside the UK for Free

To download and play the latest adventure game, click below for the instructions. It includes hopefully everything you need including download links. I think you'll find it is incredibly comprehensive!

Link1, Link2

Sorry. We are unable to offer download links for either a)Brains or b)Guts. You will have to find these from someone yourself.

If you have any problems or anything to add, please let us know.

Edit by PCJ:  Moved up so non-UKers can see it clearly. Also it is incredibly disheartening to see a few hours ago the adventure game instructions were changed and reposted, but before that, at least 3 people, maybe 5+ have either complained or asked where they were, barring one or two, were not exactly the most polite. This doesn't really bother me that much (although rudeness is annoying) since I admit I am a few days after I said it would be, but now when it has been posted for over 8 hours, no one has had the decency to show any gratitude at all. Not even the slightest bit. In all honesty I wonder why I bother sometimes instead of getting on with my own busy life and stop worrying about anyone else who depends on me for anything.

I followed your instructions precisely and the game installer still recognized me as being outside the UK.

Does anyone know of a Mac solution for installing the game?

You, sir, are a legend. Thank you! :D GERONIMO!

How did you delete the extension? I've tried to get around this, and it seems windows restores it in any event....

And regardless, thanks PCJ and all involved here!

BlackToaster of Toastland said...

You might check the file you have to create. Windows hides your file extension by default & mine was .txt. When I found that and removed the extension, it worked like a dream!

YOU ARE THE MOST AWESOME PEOPLE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!  [Well, after The Doctor anyway :) ]

Here is a much easier way to get is done. Run this (http://www.britishtvanywhere.com/trial/) before you install the game. Its 7min trail is enough for the installation.

Thank you! :)

Sorry mate, i followed all the steps but the installer still recognises me as outside the UK!

I'm sorry to bother you, but I have the same problem as Keyofmgy. Where should I post the screenshots? Or what should I do?

Hey you have Disqus! This looks much better. And thanks PCJ, even though I'm not outside of the UK :)

Well I never thought my opinion matters anything, but I really appreciate what you're doing. Your guides is almost the only thing that allow me play this game in my God-damn-so-far-away-Ukraine, were even buying it can be far too complicated. So - yes - thank you so much for everything ^_________^ You're awesome :)

Thank you guys! You are the best site for this, hands down. Great work!

Hey combom, it knows im outta the UK and won't allow me to complete the process of installing the program. If you find anohter link, could you please post as soon as possible! And enormous thanks for trying, I've waited for months for this game and was a bit pissed off that no-one has a link of an international download yet as the other games did. But still thanks! :)

I always appreciate the efforts of this site to bring me the Doctor Who goodies. Tonight I could have downloaded from your links or just buy it. I was waiting for the game to be available for XP. So I bought it. But thanks for all you do.

I know how to install the game. But Thanks!

thank you for doing what you do. I've still got 3 hours of downloading the Gunpowder Plot. I will tell you if I get it working.

pcjonathan said...

Damn.. And I tried so hard to avoid that. OK. Just to confirm things, please could you close everything and then reopen everything and post screenshots of: The isukrequest file and it's location (including address bar), the xampp control panel and the hosts file. Also try going to http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/tag/api/geo/isukrequest and posting what you get back. That should at least see if we can narrow down the problem a bit. Thanks

At first I wanted to say thank you for link to download this game because I searched for few days. And also thank you for this instruction of how install it. But I had problem even if I do exactly what was in instruction, but I found what it can be. It's probably problem with this file which I must create. It always save for me as txt even if I save it as all files and later I can't change this txt. And I tried a lot of things but still nothing. Can you help with this?

Anna said...

Problem solved. I just had to save this as all files and in file name add "." at the end. I installed it and it works :) Thank you again for helping people outside the UK, for posting link to download and all this instruction how to install it. You are great!

is there a mac installation guide? thanks a bundle for the download links

Tory Danna said...

Hey, got it working. Thanks for the instructions.

I adore you for posting this. Nothing was working for me, until I saw your comment and made the change. Many thanks to you and PCJ!

Hey--just wanted to say that I'm a complete dumbass and hadn't realized that the isukrequest file had saved as a .txt even though I had selected "all files". After I removed the extension as suggested above, the installer worked perfectly. :)

pcjonathan said...

The download links have already been given. Two times already. One in a post and one in the instructions themselves. I don't understand what the problem is

pcjonathan said...

Don't worry, your opinion matters just as much as everyone else :)

pcjonathan said...

Thanks :) The dot will soon be added to the tutorial. I knew I forgot something to add/change to it since last time. Glad someone reminded me

Richard Binns said...

yeah, I'm reading that. But I've already created the files. It's just the stupid "hosts" thing it wants me to change and add 127.0.0.1 www.bbc.co.uk to
it says I cannot change the hosts thing, cause it's one of the main important things

Ellie Tresemer said...

Yeah, didn't work with me, followed it to a T. I got everything up to 'hosts' on C:/. when I put in the
127.0.0.1 www.bbc.co.uk
It won't allow me to save it, because it'd end up changing the entire file, etc, and Windows won't allow me to do that. What I didn't get was how to delete the extensions. I have all the files and isukrequest set as "all files" but, alas, it's still set as .txt. How do I change that as well?

pcjonathan said...

http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaforum/showthread.php?57516-How-to-determine-what-software-is-using-port-80-(or-any-other-port)
I found it by typing "what programs are using port 80" into google...it's the first one.

pcjonathan said...

You did look in the etc folder in the drivers folder like it says in the tutorial...right?

Tom said...

If you haven't gotten this solved yet; open up the folder it's in, press the right alt key, go to the tools menu, folder options, view, then uncheck "hide file extensions."  Right click on the file and click on "rename." That'll let you delete the extension.

Tom said...

His problem is probably the same that I and some other people had. The "isukrequest" file saved as a txt file. The same thing happened to me and I couldn't install it either, but once I fixed that, it worked fine. No need to download it again.

I'm in America, and I had been getting REALLY frustrated with installing this (and the other Adventure Games), so... I started looking within YouTube, and I found a video that suggested the download of a program called Expat Shield (Google search it, if you're interested - I'm not advertising for them - just trying to help fellow non-UK Whovians enjoy these games). Once this program is active, it disguises your IP so that the Internet thinks you're in the UK. AND THEN, it will let you download and install the games direct from BBC.

And, I can attest to the fact that it works! The only "annoyance" is the fact that this program places a banner with an ad at the top of your browser - which you can close (which prompts the page to reload). I freaking LOVE IT!

WOO-HOO!

*goes to play the Gunpowder Plot*

Thanks so much for providing this guide - I really didn't think it was possible for a computer-noob like me, but now I have The Gunpowder Plot finally installed (+ perfectly working) on my PC!!!

Combom...many thanks for posting this game...could you please explain why it is needed to do this? I have a mac  and i would like to figure how to do this in my notebook...i mean..do u have to modify the HOST file to redirect traffic from the app to the computer so it thinks it is connecting to a UK site? Another thing is that the mac installer keeps telling me to conect to internet but i'am connected and i can't figure how to by-pass it...
thanks...you deserve a bow-tie and a Fex XD...
